Sponsel CPA Group "adopts" family for Christmas

Every year for the past three holiday seasons, Sponsel CPA Group has been proud to “adopt” a Christmas Family through the United Christmas Service, an agency of the United Way of Central Indiana.

Presents were purchased for the entire family, which the Sponsel team personally wrapped. It’s our way of bringing a little Christmas cheer to our neighbors facing tough times. Tom Sponsel and the partners firmly believe that part of being a successful business is giving back to the community!

Marching to fight against homelessness

On Dec. 19 members of Sponsel CPA Group participated in the 2011 Central Indiana Homeward Bound to fight homelessness.

This one-mile walk through downtown Indianapolis, a project of the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development, raises funding for and awareness about affordable housing and homeless needs. More than $39,000 was raised to benefit 11 different local agencies across Central Indiana.

Check out these great photos of our team valiantly (though not always triumphantly) vying at tug o' war and other competitions against local companies.

United Way Day of Caring

The Sponsel CPA Group was on hand for the United Way's annual Day of Caring on Aug. 26, when volunteers branched out into the community to do good works. Pat Metallic, as the firm's team captain for the day, directed fellow employees as they helped paint the interior of the Martin Center on North College Avenue and completed landscaping projects. Martin Center's mission is to help those with sickle cell disease and hemoglobinapathy.

BackPack Attack Is Back!

Sponsel CPA Group recently participated in the United Way's annual BackPack Attack and our firm really put forth a true team effort.

Two internal teams competed for donations resulting in overflowing boxes of supplies for us to present to the United Way for distribution at the beginning of the school year.

Sponsel's second annual BackPack Attack was a huge success, and we're more than happy to participate in this worthwhile cause to help IPS students. With such a successful effort, we've set the mark extremely high for next year. We would like to thank all of our employees for their donations and for being winners for our community!

Helping United Way Set the Pace

The United Way of Central Indiana kicks off its annual campaign Friday, Sept. 9. But Sponsel CPA Group got an early start by being part of the Pacesetter campaign, collecting donations internally before the official start to get some momentum and build early enthusiasm. Tom Sponsel is a member of this year's United Way campaign cabinet, and will be in charge of reaching out to financial/accounting and legal firms, encouraging them to be generous in this time of great need.

The firm's involvement with the Pacesetter campaign was a great success, resulting in an increase of 24 percent over the previous year's tally donated by Sponsel CPA Group employees. More than $10,000 was raised this year!

We encourage our friends and colleagues to add their support to this year's campaign.

Sponsel CPA Group Manager, Mike Bedel, is an alumni of the University of Dayton, having graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration in August 2003.

August 2010: United Way Day of Caring
Sponsel CPA Group participated in the United Way Day of Caring in by donating a full work day to helping improve the community. Their efforts focused on the near east side around the Moon Block Building at 10th and Rural Streets.

Employees worked on different projects, including weeding and cleaning out Moon Block Park. Another group worked on the “Green Roof” over what will soon be the Little Green Bean Boutique, a second-hand children’s clothing store that will open soon. A third group leveled the ground and installed pavers for a walkway at the rear entrance to the Little Green Bean Boutique. Employees also weeded and cleaned up several storefronts on the 10th street corridor. It was a fun day of “giving back” to our community.
