Tom Sponsel

Tom grew up in Indianapolis, and has been practicing in public accounting for more than 43 years. As Managing Partner, he has a great deal of experience in serving family-owned and closely held businesses, as well as not-for-profit organizations. This includes providing advisory services on succession planning, organizational structure, strategic planning, consulting on various phases of entrepreneurial growth, corporate governance and planning for not-for profits.

Tom has earned the ABV designation establishing him as “Accredited in Business Valuation,” demonstrating his expertise in business valuation and related matters. He is also Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and frequently provides expert testimony in legal proceedings.

Tom is committed to an active leadership role in both his profession and community, Tom has held a number of leadership positions for the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and served on several AICPA National Committees.

Tom was awarded the 1993 INCPAS President’s Award for his distinguished service to the Society and was the recipient of the 2004 INCPAS Outstanding CPA in Public Practice award.

Tom is very active in the community. He has served on the board of trustees for the Catholic Community Foundation, currently sits on its Planned Giving Committee. He has mentored high school students at Arsenal Tech High School and has served in a number of volunteer committee leadership roles for the Perry Township Schools. He also serves on the Audit Committee of the Finance Council of Archdiocese of Indianapolis and as Treasurer of the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana.

Tom’s proudest accomplishment is building Sponsel CPA Group, starting in 2009, as a test of his Team’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellent client service where relationships are revered and compliance transactions are secondary.
